  Training in Forensic Psychiatry

Residents receive a rich exposure to forensic psychiatry during their residency. Barry Morenz, M.D. Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry, is a Board-certified forensic psychiatrist who coordinates forensic experiences for the residents. Residents have experience in their first and second years with civil commitment. During their third year, residents observe and participate in a wide variety of forensic evaluations. Also during their third year, residents receive a fifteen-week course in ethics and forensic psychiatry. The course is taught by Dr. Morenz. During the fourth year, residents may elect to receive more intensive exposure to forensic psychiatry. Finally, there are a number of psychologists and psychiatrists in the community and the department who do forensic consultations as well as work in the prison systems who are willing to work with residents doing forensic electives.
