  Pre-Internship Training Requirements
 

The applicant should have completed a minimum of 800-1,000 hours of supervised practicum experiences including psychological assessment and psychotherapy. A formal agreement and working relationship will be established between the academic institution and the Director of Psychology Training to allow for mutual feedback. Theoretical background in psychology at the undergraduate and graduate level should include courses in learning and motivation, abnormal psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology or cultural anthropology, physiological psychology, psychological assessment, psychotherapy, neuropsychology, and professional and ethical standards in psychology. The prospective interns should be aware that the internship is located in a medical center. Although familiarity with medical terms is not a prerequisite, the interns should be able to function in a multidisciplinary setting. The intern should be able to complete a structured interview, including a detailed biopsychosocial history. Preparation or strong interest in neuropsychology or assessment/intervention of children and adolescents (depending on which track the intern is applying to) is desirable. Preference is given to applicants from APA-approved clinical programs. Cultural diversity among accepted applicants is a priority.
