Description/Target Audience
This symposium is designed to meet the educational needs of physicians (psychiatrists, family practitioners, general practitioners), psychologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses and other health care professionals. Each half-day will provide practical and clinically relevant information for day-to-day problems.
Needs Assessment
This year’s topics were selected based on suggestions from past course participants, faculty perception of significant issues in treatments and review of current trends in literature which reflect new emphasis in clinical decision-making and patient care.
Educational Objectives
In the goal to ultimately improve patient care, attendees will be able to:
- Review the latest information on the revamp medication algorithm for chronic depression
- Discover information about the new NIMH study
- Evaluate information from the DSM V
- Discuss the management of insomnia and other sleep disorders
- Examine the treatment of chronic depression using deep brain stimulation
- Analyze metabolic syndrome related to antipsychotics and antidepressants
- Explain diagnosis and treatment of bipolar disorder in children/adolescents
- Identify new pharmacotherapies for the treatment of alcoholism
- Describe depression treatments for elderly patients

The Arizona Psychological Association is approved by the American Psychological Association to offer continuing education to psychologists. Accommodations
This year’s symposium will be held at the Inn at Loretto (211 Old Santa Fe Trail, Santa Fe, NM, 87501), located in the heart of Santa Fe. The Inn is only a short stroll to the city’s famed galleries, museums, and the plaza. Guestrooms feature charming, Southwestern motif with Native American art adorning the walls. All rooms have dataports, coffee maker, CD player, pillow-top mattresses and goose-down pillows. Most rooms have balconies.
The special group rate ($205 per night single or double occupancy, plus tax), will be honored when you mention that you are attending the CME activity, “Annual Santa Fe Psychiatric Symposium.” The room block will be held until Sunday, May 27, 2007.
