The Arizona Health Sciences Center at The University of Arizona, which includes the Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Public Health and Pharmacy, the School of Health-Related Professions, and the University Medical Center, is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Occupying 30 acres on the university campus, the complex consists of six interconnected buildings and adjoining structures. These include the Basic Sciences Building, the Clinical Sciences Building, Outpatient Clinics, University Medical Center, the Arizona Cancer Center, the University Heart Center, Life Sciences North, and the Children's Research Center. The Arizona Health Sciences Center Library maintains a collection of 165,000 volumes and 3,500 journals. The library is open 24 hours every day, except Christmas and New Year's Day.
The University Medical Center is a private, non-profit institution that operates under a lease arrangement with the Arizona Board of Regents. It is a 365-bed hospital originally built in 1971 that has undergone extensive modifications. The inpatient psychiatric unit is in a newly renovated space on the 2nd floor of the hospital. Outpatient psychiatric facilities are located on the 7th floor of the same building.
