Richard Van Rhoads, M.D.
Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry,
Director of Psychiatry Residency Training Program
Dr. Van Rhoads is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Arizona Psychiatry Department. He works at UPH Hospital and is currently the Residency Director of the UA/UPHK GME Consortium Psychiatry Residency Program.
Dr. Van Rhoads graduated from the University of Massachusetts Medical School in 2001 and completed his Adult Psychiatry Residency in 2005 at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center. He joined the faculty at the UA in 2005 and has worked at Consultation-Liaison director at University Medical Center , inpatient psychiatrist at UPH Hospital , and as Consultation-Liaison / ED psychiatry director at UPH Hospital.
Dr. Van Rhoads' current interests include emergency psychiatry, diagnostic classification, and residency education. He is the consultant editor for the American Psychiatric Association Practice Guidelines for the Treatment of Patients with Major Depressive Disorder, 3 rd Ed (in press). He supervises residents in various years of training and lectures on emergency psychiatry and diagnostic issues within psychiatry.
