Kathy Smith

Kathy Wosnitzer Smith, M.D.
Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry
Director, Women's Mental Health Program


Dr. Smith graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology in 1996, and received her medical degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine in 2001. She stayed at the University of Arizona and completed her residency training in General Psychiatry, and a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She joined the faculty at the University of Arizona in 2006.

Dr. Smith is the director of the Women's Mental Health Program, a program with both research and clinical components with emphasis on mood disorders in the context of reproductive events. The program involves a structured teaching clinic for psychiatry residents, in which residents receive education and clinical experience in the evaluation and treatment of mood disorders in women. She also supervises fellows in the child and adolescent psychiatry training program.

Dr. Smith's clinical interests include women's issues in the postpartum period, including postpartum depression, mother-infant attachment and infant sleep disorders.
