Andrzej Honory, MD

Andrzej Honory, M.D.
Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry 

Dr. Andrzej Honory is a faculty member and staff psychiatrist at the University of Arizona and University Physician Healthcare Hospital. He is Board Certified in Psychiatry.

Dr. Honory graduated from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland. He completed his residency training program in psychiatry at the University Hospital in Krakow and he became faculty at the Department of Psychiatry of the Jagiellonian University. He published on seasonal affective disorder and phototherapy. After passing his United States Medical Licensing Examination, Dr. Honory decided to pursue his career in the United States. He graduated from the residency training program in psychiatry at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He was involved in the study “Fluoxetine, sleep and sex differences in depression” and presented it at the World Conference “Physiological Basis for Sleep Medicine” in Uruguay. Following his graduation he spent several years providing psychiatric services in the medically underserved area of Kingman, AZ. He treated seriously mentally ill, general mental health and substance abuse outpatients with coverage of the Psychiatric Health Facility, Sub-acute Stabilization unit.

After relocation to Tucson, he became a faculty member at The University of Arizona / UPHK Graduate Medical Education Consortium and the staff psychiatrist at the University Physician Healthcare Hospital. He is currently the unit leader in the Behavioral Health Services West Unit which is the acute stabilization unit for voluntary and involuntary inpatients from Tucson area. His area of interest focuses on management of violence, rapid stabilization of acutely ill patients and providing them with continuity of care by close collaboration with the outpatient agencies. He is also an active member of the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee.

Dr. Honory supervises residents as well as medical and pharmacy students, teaching them the principles of safe, efficacious and compassionate inpatient psychiatric care. He coordinates inpatient psychiatric rotations for second year psychiatry residents.
